EVERY white collar job will be done by agents. Every single one. Except the part where you have to be there - in your body.
Not in 2035. Tomorrow. (Okay, some of it already this morning, while you were looking for your car keys.)
Let's do a quick test
Open your to-do list. Go.
Emails. Report. Excel. Meeting summary. Proposal. Research. Scheduling the meeting about the meeting.
Done? Good. Your agent can do all of it. Faster, at 3 am, and it won't send a passive-aggressive "as per my last email". :)
I'm not saying this as a nice keynote provocation. I build agents for my own company. Every week I watch a full day of work turn into 11 minutes for the agent and 5 minutes for a human to check it.
If your job is "I get information, I do something with it, I send it on" - congrats, you just described an agent.
And yes, jobs will go. Not "transform". Go.
So what's left?
You. In a room. With a face.
- Communication - the real one, where you see their eyebrow move and change your sentence halfway.
- Charisma - the reason a room goes quiet when certain people open their mouth.
- Presentation - the agent makes the deck. You stand in front of the board. They decide in 4 seconds if they trust you. Not the slides. You.
- Negotiation - when someone looks you in the eye and decides whether you mean it.
- Leading in hard moments - no agent should tell your team about layoffs. And no decent company will let one.
People buy from people. People follow people. People forgive people.
Your new job description
Two lines.
- Manage your agents.
- Show up as a human.
The first one you learn in a few weeks. The second one takes years.
What to do this week
- Make two columns: "done on a screen" and "done in person". The first column? That's your agent's job description now.
- Give one task to an agent. Fully. Not "help me with it". "DO it." You just check.
- Get on a stage. Any stage. Team meeting, a 5-minute talk, a toast at your aunt's birthday. Presence is a muscle.
- Train your voice, your pauses, your eye contact. Yes, it's trainable. I've been doing it with leaders for years - and they all thought they didn't need it. :)
- Leaders: stop promoting the best report writer. Promote the one people actually listen to.
The future of office work looks a lot like the past. Someone stands up, looks people in the eye, and says something worth hearing.
The rest? Your agent finished it while you were reading this.
So, you know. Start.
